Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was a Japanese ukiyoe (woodblock print) artist active until the end of the 19th century. As Japan modernized he relentlessly strove for perfection in the use of traditional materials and methods. He is widely considered the greatest Japanese artist of his time.
